New Milton Town ended one of the longest home winless streaks in Wessex League history thanks to an impressive 1-0 victory over much-fancied Fareham Town.
Stuart Mott’s goal six minutes after the interval settled an intriguing encounter in favour of the Linnets as they registered their first league win at Fawcett’s Field for more than 18 months.
Jordan Hughes wasted an opportunity to double their lead when he missed a penalty 10 minutes from time before the Linnets held on to end a run of 26 games without a home win.
Linnets, who had previously tasted success in front of their own supporters in March 2009, have steadily climbed the table after winning three of their past five league matches.
Paul Hardyman’s charges will be hoping lightning strikes twice in the same place when they host neighbours Christchurch tomorrow (7.45pm).
New Milton: Loader, Colman, Evans, White, Littler, Lever, Holland, Fields, Booker (Fox), Mott (Hardyman), Hughes. Unused subs: Parnell, Alcon, Amey.
