STEVE Smith netted twice as Poole Town came from behind to claim the scalp of their previously-unbeaten South West Peninsula Premier Division opponents.

The Dolphins were on the back foot after Chris Luxton had given the Black & Ambers a 15th-minute lead at their Priory Park headquarters in Cornwall.

But after Steve Richardson’s effort three minutes before half-time had restored parity, Smith popped up to give the visitors the lead at the interval.

And a polished second-half display from Tom Killick’s men saw Smith complete the scoring after Lamin Dibba had made it 3-1.

“We really broke their spirit in the second half,” said Killick. “We were strong and the second-half performance was excellent.

“I feared for us a little after we had gone behind but we came back strongly to take the lead in what had been an even first half.

“But it was one-way traffic in the second half and we were comfortable. It was a good all-round display but we defended particularly well in the second half.

“They were a good side with some decent players. The level in Cornwall is distorted because of the distances players would have to travel to play higher.

“We knew it would be a close call and had to be at our best to win. It is not often we get to play a team of that calibre and I thought we did well.”

Dolphins: Mitchener, Poore, Dibba, M Walker, Smeeton, Cream (Gill, 60), Richardson (Sturgess, 75), Hubbard, Cann, Cook, S Smith (S Walker, 85). Unused sub: Spetch.

Ringwood Town’s FA Cup adventure ended in Gloucestershire where they were beaten 5-0 by Southern Premier Division outfit Cinderford Town.

However, the Wessex One promotion hopefuls swelled the Long Lane coffers to the tune of £2,250 with wins over Cowes and Yate Town in previous rounds.
