CHRIS Holder has reiterated he doesn’t want to rely on a wild card to line-up in the Grand Prix series again next year.

The Aussie ace has been a breath of fresh air during his debut World Championship campaign this season.

But the British GP winner, who scorched to spectacular victory at Cardiff in June, knows his current seventh-placed overall standing will come under serious threat in the final three rounds.

Two relatively low-key appearances since his memorable Principality triumph have followed, with Pirates’ spearhead having to work hard to pick up six and seven points, respectively, at Malilla and Gorican.

It means Poole Castle Cover’s heat leader heads for the ninth round at Vojens in Denmark tonight (6pm) needing a confidence-boosting performance to consolidate.

Currently, he has 73 points, one ahead of Britain’s Chris Harris, on 72. Fredrik Lindgren (65), Hans Andersen (64), Andreas Jonsson (61), Nicki Pedersen (55) and even Magnus Zetterstrom (52) are all still in the chase for a top-eight automatic re-qualification place as well.

Holder, aware Pedersen and injured Emil Sayfutdinov are almost certain to be given two of the four wild cards on offer for 2011, said: “I don’t want to have to rely on wild cards for next year.

“I want to make sure I get into the top eight and get my place back on merit.

“To automatically re-qualify for next year would be superb, and that’s what we’re working hard to achieve going into the meeting at Vojens.”

If Holder can repeat his Millennium Stadium heroics, he could yet force his way back into the top four as Rune Holta (82), Kenneth Bjerre (81) and Greg Hancock (75) aren’t that far in front of him, either.

His Poole team-mate, Davey Watt, makes his third GP appearance, as series second reserve, at Vojens.

<•>Buccaneers travel to King’s Lynn tomorrow (7.30pm) using guest Danny Warwick for injured Jerran Hart.

A win, and probably a draw, would book Bournemouth Castle Cover’s top-four National League play-off berth before the qualification cut-off date on Monday.

But if the Dorset side are defeated, and Rye House beat high-riding Newport at home, Buccaneers will miss out.

Buccaneers: Warwick, Howarth, A Baseby, Brundle, M Baseby, Sarjeant, Stoneman.
