THE tri-nations 15-man team challenge held along the Milford Shingle Bank and Pennington Sea Wall proved to be very successful, with competitors landing a surprising number of wrasse, garfish and black bream.

Among the other species caught were undulate rays, mackerel, flounders, golden grey mullet and even a pipe fish.

SAMF England won the catch-and-release event, that was judged to length to weight conversion charts, by a wide margin followed by Holland and then Belgium.

The top individual was Ian Golds followed by Darren Newland who are both SAMF members.

<•>Anglers heading afloat with the Poole charter fleet continue to find some hefty blonde rays with Lester Watts the latest to strike lucky when he heaved a 22-pounder over the gunnels of ‘Rapid Fisher’ skippered by Paul Smith.

Watts was using hired tackle along with a mackerel/squid cocktail to tempt the specimen. The same trip also produced a blonde weighing 21-0 for Patrick Kelly.

<•>Eastoke was the setting for the final round of the Allan’s Marine Super league series where bass, bream and smooth hound supplied the action during the catch-and-release event.

Martin Mogridge won on the night with 7-6.25 followed by Dave Edwards 7-3 and Kim Andrews 1-0.

The overall series winner was Steve Carter with 12 penalty points. He collected £60 for his efforts. John Brown came second with 13 points followed by Mick Goodger and Dave Edwards both with 18 points.

The heaviest fish in the series was a 6-4 smooth hound recorded by Dave Edwards while the heaviest flatfish was a flounder weighing just 4oz caught by John Brown.

A new six-match open pegged series gets underway on July 27 at Eastoke with fishing from 8pm to midnight. AROUND THE CLUBS BOURNEMOUTH AND DISTRICT SAA A shore competition held at Barton-on-Sea provided some pretty lean pickings with Steve Bishop winning the event with a 2-12 smooth hound followed by Jeffery Fisk with a brace of black bream for 1-6 and then Brian Fisk with a 15.5oz bream. Lymington AND DISTRICT SFC The action was extremely disappointing during a shore competition held around the Lymington Sea Wall where competitors were frustrated with many undersize school bass pinching the baits.

Junior member Joe Chamberlain won the event with a 4.75oz silver eel followed by Andrew Hopkins with a 3.75oz eel WILTS AND DORSET AC A shore competition held at Avon Beach produced a smattering of bass, wrasse and flounders. Jin Neesam ran out the winner followed by John Pocklington and Mike Allen, the top junior was Jordan Rudge. A large boat competition held out on ‘Predator’ produced tope to 30-0, undulate rays to 12-8 and the usual black bream.

NEW MILTON SFC A catch-and-release shore competition held at Steamer Point produced a smattering of bass, pout, smoothhound and rays.

Results: 1 Bruce Samber 182cm, 2 Tony Bevan 133cm, 3 Bob Goodyear 102cm, 4 Danny Mapes 73cm, 5 Barry Samber 26cm.

SWANAGE AND DISTRICT SAC Mackerel, pollack, pout along with ballan and corkwing wrasse supplied the action during a boat competition. The day’s longest fish was a 40cm pollack recorded by Graham Woods.

Results: 1 Graham Woods 128 points, 2 Will Chellingworth 103, =3 Becky Adams and John Stanford 42 points.

FRESHWATER SCENE The Beaumont Cup inter-club competition, which is now in its 70th year, was fished at Breach Pond and Wytch Farm where Christchurch came out on top with 91 points followed by Wareham 87, Wimborne 64 and Ringwood with 59.

Anton Burns who was pegged at Wytch Farm was the top individual with a 39-2 net of carp and silver fish taken on the pole.

Others: 2 Mick Dean 27-5, 3 Ady Lake 26-12, 4 Brian Hayes 26-1.

<•>The Whitemoor silver fish midweek evening league produced a win for Chris Albiston with Mick Dean 15-12 and Phil Smith 15-4.

A stunning river carp, weighing 20-12, has been landed from the Throop Fishery by Paul Piper while Chris Alport also banked a 20-ounder along with a nice brace of chub with the heaviest tipping the scales down to 6-0.
