SWANAGE Town and Herston manager Jason Phillips hailed his industrious side after they knocked in-form Weymouth out of the Dorset Premier League Cup on Saturday.

The Swans beat Terras 3-0 at Days Park with Simon Landers, Keith Middleton and Aaron Corby finding the net.

Phillips’s men were humbled 4-0 at the Wessex Stadium when the clubs met in league action on October 3.

So despite Landers’s strike giving his side a 1-0 half-time advantage, Phillips was delighted his side kept up the pressure.

He said: “From the first whistle, the boys were up for it and it was a really hard-working team result.

“We were 1-0 up at half time but I told the boys not to forget that Weymouth scored four in the second half at their place against us. That was when we were 0-0 at the break.

“I told them to keep the work rate up and that if they did, we would win.

“Then we came out and scored two goals in a minute, which was superb.”

Phillips was also glad to see veteran Middleton net his first goal since joining Swans in the summer.

He added: “That was what I hope will be the first of many goals and he got man of the match as well. He was awesome.

“I know he’s not a big man but with his experience and strength, he does hold the ball up. This means it doesn’t come back all the time.

“If Liam (Currell) or Jamie (Holland) don’t control it, it comes back – they’re all about speed and they don’t hold it up.

“Jamie was suspended but Keith came in and did a great job.”

Elsewhere, Hamworthy Recreation needed extra-time to beat DPL Cup holders Portland United 3-2 at Magna Road.

Dan Manuel put Rec in charge after 20 minutes, but Lloyd Cranny levelled for the Islanders 20 minutes from time.

Richard Sands blew a golden opportunity to send the home side through in the dying moments, when he missed a penalty.

With the score 1-1 after 90 minutes, both sides were forced to fight on for another half-an-hour.

Mike Notley put Rec ahead after 105 minutes, only for Portland to hit back quickly.

But with five minutes left on the watch, Jamie Moores scored the goal which put Gareth Daniel’s men into the quarter finals.

Cobham Sports reached the last eight after coming from behind to beat Bridport 2-1, with goals from Simon Mole and Nathan Brown.

Cranborne also had to stage a comeback at home to Sturminster Newton, as they came from 2-0 down at the break to win 4-2.

Jack Smith bagged a brace, while Andrew Loader and Dan Adlem were also on target.

Westland Sports won 2-0 at Holt United, while Sturminster Marshall were thrashed 7-1 at Wincanton Town.
