MIDFIELDER Chris Knowles is hoping Bashley can give FA Cup giant-killers Staines Town a taste of their own medicine.

Bash host the Blue Square South promotion chasers tomorrow bidding to reach the first round proper for the second time in three years (3pm).

But to book a place in Monday’s draw, the Southern League underdogs will have to overcome a shaky recent home record and a Staines side which toppled League Two big guns Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.

Staines were rewarded for their stunning success over the Shrews with a mouth-watering home second round tie against League One play-off chasers Millwall a week tomorrow.

Knowles said: “That game is always going to be in the back of their minds. After all, who doesn’t want to play in the FA Cup.

“If they are being realistic, they have more chance of going further in the FA Trophy. But we hope they will have one eye on the following week and we can take advantage of it.”

Knowles, 23, who carried off Bash’s player-of-the-year accolade last season, added: “We’ve lost three out of our past four at home. But one was in the Hampshire Senior Cup with a weakened side so we weren’t unduly worried by that.

“We’ve had a blip, but every team does. All the boys will try to bounce back with a win.

“We’ve got nothing to lose. We’re underdogs, but at home, we’re a match for any team. Hopefully, we can play well, cause an upset and get into the next round.”

Knowles continued: “A couple of years ago, we lost 1-0 at Torquay in the first round proper but I was out with a broken foot. If we could get through, it would be my first time at that stage. I’ll be nervous but I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to test myself against higher opposition and for the team to possibly earn another tie against a top Conference side.

“Personally, I think my form’s been steady this season. I haven’t got the most glamorous role in the side, but I know what I have to do.“It’s been good. The other three lads in midfield are all young and we’ve gelled well. We’re looking forward it.”
