POOLE Town booked a daunting FA Vase third round trip to high-riding Eastbourne United with a runaway 4-0 victory at Brislington last night.

Carl Preston fired Hurn Bridge into a 20th-minute lead before Aaron Skelton doubled their advantage just before half time.

Stuart Brown and Luke Whitley netted late goals as the Sydenhams Wessex League champions easily overcame their struggling Toolstation League Premier Division rivals in the second round.

Poole boss Tom Killick said: “Lamin Dibba returned to our side after being out with a groin strain and was superb.

“He is like a Rolls Royce defender. He was an absolute colossus for us last night.

“We have been without him for about five weeks and it has been no coincidence that our results have been somewhat indifferent during that time.

“His presence made a big difference.

“Another key issue was scoring first because we have not been getting ourselves in front.

“We have fallen behind in our last four or five games. We haven’t dropped points in all of those, we have come back and won some of them, but it does cause a problem.

“Going in front against Brislington gave us a boost and we played with real confidence.”

Looking ahead to their tie at Sussex County Division One title-chasing Eastbourne on December 12, Killick added: “They’re the same level as us in the pyramid and have only lost one league game this season.

“It’s a difficult draw, but we are getting to the stage in the competition where you can’t identify too many easy sides.

“When you get to this round most of those teams have been weeded out.

“I suppose the only downside is we are away from home, and we’ll have so to see what happens on the day.”

Poole Town: Jones, Gill, Whitley, Dibba (S Smith 80), Lloyd, Hubbard, Skelton (Sturgess 80), Preston, T Smith, Brown (Culliford 75), Cook. Unused subs: Ackerman, Robinson.

Christchurch, who reached the fifth round of the competition last season, disappointingly bowed out 5-2 at home to Almondsbury Town last night.

Priory, who missed out on a third round trip to Witney United, were three goals down inside 25 minutes.

And they couldn’t retrieve the situation against the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division title-chasers in front of a stunned crowd at Hurn Bridge.

In the Wessex Premier, Wimborne lost for the second time inside a month to Romsey Town, where Ryan Long bagged a brace in a 2-0 home triumph as his side completed a notable double.

Struggling New Milton lost 1-0 at home to Blackfield and Langley, who netted through Chris Aslett in the 30th minute.

In Division One, Ringwood fell 2-0 behind at Stockbridge courtesy of Jack Hutchings and Ryan Boare before Carl Fleet bagged a late consolation from the penalty spot in a 2-1 defeat.
