POOLE Town vice chairman Chris Reeves has vowed to secure a fair deal for the club as Charlie Austin’s proposed move to Swindon Town gathered pace.

Reeves yesterday revealed that he held talks with Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton on Sunday as the League One big guns continued to close in on Dolphins’ star frontman.

Austin impressed during a recent trial with the Robins and his move to the Wiltshire outfit appears to be inching ever nearer, with Poole expecting a formal bid in the next 24 hours.

But Reeves is keen to ensure Poole receive a good price for Austin, who hit five goals on Saturday in what could prove to be his final game for the club.

“We’ve put together a series of proposals that we think are reasonable, which provide for what we think is a sensible transfer fee with sensible add-ons,” Reeves told the Echo.

“If Charlie is a rip-roaring success and we haven’t negotiated add-ons, we’re going to look stupid. And if he is (a success), I’m sure Swindon will be delighted with the figures mentioned.

“I believe there’s a strong body of opinion at Swindon that Charlie is the real article. I’m hoping those on the footballing side who take that view will convince the chairman to make a sensible offer.

“I’ve told him the figures we’ve got in mind. We genuinely feel we’re being reasonable and I do have a clean conscience on that.”

Dolphins travel to Brockenhurst tonight (7.45pm), looking to continue their 100 per cent Wessex Premier record.

It is unclear whether Austin will feature, but he is named in the squad.
