BOURNEMOUTH-based painter and decorator Jan Tryska sampled some cracking sea fishing action while heading afloat in his own small boat Holy Mackerel.

Tryska was fishing with an up-tide rod along with a pulley rig and first apprehended a 24lb blonde ray. While the ray was certainly a worthy specimen, he went on to bag a 10-1 bass which was the 10th double-figure bass that he has caught in his angling career.

Also on the small boats, George Robins from Bournemouth recorded a 23-0 cod while fishing off the Isle of Wight. He went afloat from Christchurch on his own boat Sea-Legs.

£400 FOR CHARITY

THE Poole-based charter vessel skipper Malcolm Collins joined forces with a crew comprising local ladies to raise money for the breast cancer charity the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

The ladies, who landed a number of mackerel, gurnard and dogfish, raised £400 during the day while fishing aboard Onamission. The event, which was sponsored by Jon Long of Long Jons Fish and Chip Shop, is to be repeated next year.
