LEON Madsen insists he won’t be camera shy ahead of Pirates’ juicy televised home encounter against Coventry tonight.

The 20-year-old Dane makes his British debut four years after a last-minute contract hitch meant he didn’t carry through his plans to ride for Glasgow in 2005.

Madsen comes into Poole Castle Cover’s team in place of dropped Daniel Davidsson, but insists he won’t be fazed by Sky Sports’ cameras.

The Dane, who has enjoyed Swedish and Polish top-flight experience with Indianerna and Wroclaw this year, said: “Coventry sounds like a hard meeting and it’s on TV, but that’s okay and hopefully we can win it.

“I’m used to riding in front of the cameras in Sweden and Poland, so it’s not a big deal.

“When you’ve ridden in front of crowds of 20,000 in Poland there is no problem.

“You just have to concentrate on your racing, not the cameras.”

Madsen, who arrives on a 4.00 average, has eight league meetings to try and secure a 2010 contract with relegation-threatened Pirates.

Asked what he was looking to achieve, the Dane said: “I just want to have good meetings and score some points, be a part of the team and help Poole win some matches.

“I hope I can help them turn things around.

“Of course I don’t want to have too much pressure placed on me because it’s my first season in England and I want to get experience for next year.

“That’s why it’s good my first three Poole meetings are at home. It will help me get used to their track a lot quicker because I wouldn’t have wanted to start with away ones.

“It feels great signing for Pirates because they are a club I’ve always wanted to ride for.

“I’m happy about it and have fellow Danes Bjarne Pedersen and Hans Andersen to support me as well.”

Madsen allegedly walked out on Glasgow in 2005 just hours before his debut following a dispute over “garage facilities.”

Reflecting on what happened four years ago, the Dane said: “A few things went wrong, but that’s history now. I’m a lot better and older now.

“I feel more ready to come over now. I’m a lot more experienced and feel it’s the right time.

“I’ve scored good points in Sweden and Poland and also ride in Denmark for Brovst, and I’m hoping that experience will help me in England.”

Bjarne Pedersen is the only doubt for Pirates tonight, with the Dane still recovering from dizziness and loss of memory following a spill during a guest booking for Lakeside on July 25.
