DORSET star Alastair Barnes endured a bittersweet final day at the Rokill-sponsored Bournemouth Open.
The county spearhead was beaten in straight sets 6-3 7-6 by third seed Nicholas Sayer in the men’s singles final at the West Hants club, but did pick up the men’s doubles crown alongside Ben Pritchard – gaining revenge on Sayer and partner Karim Aouichaoui 1-6 6-4 1-0 (5).
Second seed Ryan Frankel also showed some sublime touches in beating Alexander Sendegeya to the boys’ 14/u title, but his was to be Dorset’s only singles success on the final day.
In-form Gabriella Taylor was edged out 6-3 3-6 1-0 (6) by Jasmine Asghar in the final of the girls’ 12/u event, while Ella Taylor was beaten 6-4 6-2 by top seed Katie Boulter in the girls’ 14/u final.
Elsewhere, Gabriella Taylor teamed up with Asghar to take the girls’ 12/u doubles title 6-3 6-4 against Ashwini Foster and Ceire Mullins, while Ella Taylor and Harriet Dart backed up their top-seeded status by winning the girls’ 14/u doubles final 6-4 3-6 1-0 (9).
Frankel, though, failed to add to his singles title when Alexander Jhun and Robert Mitchell pipped the Dorset youngster and Callum Poland-Smith 6-2 6-4 in the final of the boys’ 14/u doubles.
