BOSS Eddie Howe is hoping Cherries' lacklustre display in their final friendly against Charlton yesterday will act as a "little wake-up call".
Brett Pitman's first-half penalty was sandwiched between goals from Thierry Racon and Lloyd Sam as the Addicks ran out convincing 2-1 winners at Dean Court.
Howe said: "I thought Charlton were excellent. I was very impressed and they gave us a tough game, probably our toughest of pre-season.
"For whatever reason, I thought we looked a little off it so it's a little wake-up call ahead of the season. I thought they were better in all departments. We can't complain about anything and got what we deserved."
Howe added: "On the whole, I think we've performed well in all our pre-season games, especially the two against Premier League sides.
"On the evidence of that performance, Charlton are going to be at the top end of League One so we played a good side. But, from our point of view, we can do a lot better.
"The league is the important stuff and we will be well prepared. I'm hopeful we will give a really good account of ourselves. Bury is probably going to be one of the hardest games we will face this season so the lads need to be ready."
Howe is hoping striker Jeff Goulding will recover from a dead leg, although confirmed skipper Danny Hollands had suffered a "setback" with his troublesome knee. Hollands is this week due to see a specialist.
