Llewellyn Kinch (GWR Team) won the latest round of the Wessex Cycle Racing League with a powerful ride on the Holt circuit. Kinch even had time to raise his hands as a victory salute to celebrate his win – and he was not the only one – as second-placed Philip Gough (Red Kite Cycles) also did the same, not realising Kinch had already taken the win by 12 seconds.

The best local performer was Barry Clewett (Bournemouth Arrow CC), who placed fifth in the bunch sprint up the tough hill to Holt Heath after 98km.

Introduced at the beginning of 2009, the Wessex League now has more than 225 members and is the fastest-growing league of its kind in the country. With the next event being the third of the QinetiQ Summer Series at Barnsfield tomorrow, there is interest growing in the upcoming three-day Dorset Tour, which will allow riders from the regional to compete in a multiday event, the only of its kind in Dorset.
