IRELAND'S gold reserves are depleted after a visit from Bournemouth Dolphins’ 12-year-old Dan Speers.

The youngster, whose father is Irish, returned from Dublin with five gold and two bronze medals after plundering the Irish National Age Group Championships.

His title-winning swims came in the 11-12yrs 100 and 200m breaststroke in 1:23.84 and 2:58.06, the 100m butterfly (1:12.64) and the 200 and 400m individual medley (2:38.27 and 5:41.44).

Bronze came in the 200 and 400m freestyle (2:21.86 and 5:02.79).

  • Seagulls’ 10-year-old Jasmin Oliver-House picked up two bronze medals at the Plymouth Open Meet.

She came third in the 200m butterfly (3:33.61) and 200m freestyle (2:49.21) as well as fourth in the 400m free (5:54.09), fifth in the 200m medley (3:14.57) and sixth in the 200m backstroke (3:15.79).

  • Poole-based Wessex Diving Club’s annual championships attracted 39 entries, including a large number in the beginners and improvers categories.

Club coach Pete Morris said: “The diving was of a high standard with some good basic movements executed by beginners and improvers.”

The girls’ beginners event was a close contest with Alex Dawes just taking the gold with a score of 45.90 from Danielle Russell (45.10) and Nancy Whitlock, who took bronze with 40.25.

Harry Stuart won the boys’ beginners’ event with 35.20 points with Joshua Osborne taking silver with 30.25 and Dan Bedford bronze on 22.50.

First place in the girls’ im-provers went to Sophie Webber with 49.60 from Sian Davies (46.60) and Lucy Mathiot (44.50).

Nick Winfield dived well in the boys’ improvers to take gold with 58.45, 13.45 points ahead of silver medallist Kai Poxon (45.00), with bronze going to Toby Baverstock on 37.80.

Several past members who have moved away but retained their memberships returned to compete in the senior and masters competitions.
