LYMINGTON captain Christian Pain is hoping his side can keep utilising the art of surprise as they bid to continue what has been a fine start to the season.

The SPL Division One new boys are flying high in second position ahead of tomorrow’s clash at St Cross Symondians.

With only a few of Lymo’s players well known in the top flight, Pain believes his men have been able to cash in on the shock factor.

He told the Echo: “We don’t know too much about a couple of the teams we’ve played against and they don’t know too much about us.

“They know Glyn Treagus, Morgan Rushbrook and the reputation of Simon Cook, but other than that they don’t know our other players so we’ve caught them off guard.”

Pain, who highlighted the bowling of Rushbrook and Cook as key to his team’s success so far, added: “It would be nice to keep things on a roll.

“Everyone keeps beating everyone else so we just need to keep our heads down and see how we go.”

Lymington: Treagus, Kelly, Rushbrook, Harvey, Darbyshire, Grierson, Cook, Pain, Newton, Barton, Freeman.

Also in Division One, Bashley travel to face Hampshire Academy and Bournemouth host Totton and Eling.

Bashley: (from) Neal, Sexton, C Jones, Morris, Thurgood, Baker, Nash, Waller, G Jones, Grierson, Friedman, Bailiff.

Bournemouth: de Weymarn, N Park, C Ridley, Mills, S Ridley, Watkins, Metcalfe, Miller, Wells, Denham, Kidner.

  • Struggling New Milton can turn the tide and end their dismal run of form, according to skipper Ryan Beck.

The Fernhill outfit find themselves rock bottom of Division Two following four consecutive defeats.

In a bid to arrest this alarming slump, the basement boys have called-up pinch-hitter Paul Tompkins from the club’s third team for tomorrow’s trip to Hartley Wintney.

“We’re just waiting for it to click,” captain Beck told the Echo.

“We’re struggling with the bat at the moment but we’ll be all right.”

New Milton: R Beck, L Beck, Van der Walt, Linge, Tompkins, Gregaro, Loader, Adlem, Freeman, Whitehurst, Wakefield.
