AMID scenes of jubilation, it was former Cherries chief executive Laurence Jones who provided the voice of caution.

Lifelong Cherries fan Jones sounded a half-time rallying cry to supporters during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Grimsby.

His impassioned speech came as Eddie Howe’s men trailed to Nathan Jarman’s opener before they turned the clash on its head with goals from Liam Feeney and Steve Fletcher.

But with the celebrations going on around him, Jones delivered a clear warning that the club’s off-field future remains far from secure.

Co-owner Paul Baker is actively trying to sell the Dorset outfit and the team’s recent on-field resurgence has, unfortunately, not been mirrored in the boardroom.

Jones told the Echo: “Off the field, it’s quite simple for me, everybody is culpable. All those who have been involved are culpable for where we find ourselves.

“I make an appeal to whoever comes to take control of this club to do it with honesty, do it with transparency and do it with the care that this club deserves.

“This club has had far too many years of uncertainty and poor management off the field. Now is the time to treat this as a watershed to move forward.

“I wish whoever takes control the very best of luck. Clearly, we are in for a difficult summer.

“And nobody should be in any doubt about the challenges that are in front of this football club.

“I just make an appeal to whoever takes control to take this club forward and to do it with the care that the supporters will understand because this town needs a professional football club.”
