HAVING regained the Cherries goalkeeping jersey, Shwan Jalal is determined to hang on to it.

The 25-year-old was dropped from the first team when Tottenham Hotspur’s David Button arrived on loan last month.

But following Button’s nightmare display in the 3-3 draw at Lincoln City, where he was at fault for the goals which cost Cherries two points, Jalal was recalled by manager Eddie Howe.

And the ex-Peterborough keeper did not disappoint, as he produced a solid performance in the 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

Jalal, who is in line to start in the League Two clash against Accrington Stanley at Dean Court this afternoon (3pm), wants to once again impress his manager.

“Losing your place makes you more determined to prove the manager wrong for dropping you and I looked at it as a challenge,” Jalal told the Echo.

“I’m not going to take my position for granted and I’m going to be giving it my all for every training session and every game.”

The former Spurs trainee is keen to build on his performance from the victory over Shrewsbury.

He said: “It’s always good to get a clean sheet. It’s a great boost, means you have done your job and nobody can really ask any more of you.

“Great credit should also go to the defence as well because they held out magnificently and made my job a lot easier. It’s a team thing.

“That was my ninth of the season and I’ve set myself the target of a few more before the end of the season.”

Jalal was in goal when Cherries found themselves on the wrong end of a demoralising 3-0 defeat at Accrington back in November.

The game was done and dusted after the opening stages because early goals from Stanley’s Paul Mullin, Terry Gornell and Royston Griffiths put the game to bed.

And Jalal expects another difficult afternoon against the men from Lancashire.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” he said.

“At Accrington a couple of months back the game was over after 20 minutes because of the three goals.

“But we’ve gone the past four games unbeaten and we won the last game at home, so the boys are really looking forward to it.”
