SUPPORTERS’ Trust chairman Derek Timoney has voiced an impassioned plea to fellow Cherries fans to forget off-field worries and vociferously back Eddie Howe’s team.

The long-suffering Dean Court faithful have had another eventful week, with co-owner Paul Baker continuing talks over the sale of his share in the club and stadium owners Structadene granting a rent deferral, as well as the latest developments on a winding-up petition.

But Timoney, chairman of the AFC Bournemouth Supporters’ Trust, wants fans to concentrate on backing Cherries’ players in this afternoon’s League Two clash against Accrington Stanley.

He is hoping Dean Court will become a “fortress” during the season run-in.

“We have started to see better performances by the team and anything the fans can do to support the team will make the club more attractive to potential investors,” he told the Echo.

“Support for the team has been brilliant in the past few games and the ground has been rocking.

“The fans can help the club because playing in front of passionate fans gives the club a lift.

“While the fans can’t put their hands in pockets for loads of money, what they can do is get behind the team and help the team climb up the table.

“The supporters are clearly behind Eddie and let’s show everyone what we can do.”

He added: “The message to the fans is that whatever happens, this season is a massive season for the fans.

“The fans shouldn’t let off-field activities put them off supporting their team.

“Let’s make it fortress Dean Court again and have the same sort of support as at the back end of last season.

“Let’s show that we haven’t lost faith in the team and get behind the lads.”

Timoney revealed that the trust had met with Baker this week to discuss the “current climate” at the struggling club.

“Our message to Paul was that the club means an awful lot to the local community and we urged him to make the right decisions to ensure the club’s future,” he said.

“What we want is total transparency of the club’s current financial position.

“The Supporters’ Trust is relentlessly involved in meetings and hopefully we’ll get a suitable outcome for the club and team as a whole.”

Baker told the Echo yesterday that talks were “ongoing” as he seeks a speedy resolution to the club’s ownership saga.
