CHERRIES boss Jimmy Quinn is keen to take a second look at powerhouse defender Aaron Dalhouse.

The 19-year-old caught Quinn’s eye when he turned in an assured display during Cherries’ 2-2 draw with Combination rivals Plymouth on Monday.

Dalhouse progressed through the ranks at Crystal Palace and was invited to try his luck with Cherries following his release by the Eagles earlier this month.

The strapping six-footer, who is also due to have a trial with Southend, is expected to be invited to have another run-out with Cherries over the festive period.

Quinn told the Daily Echo: “I liked the look of him and thought he was a decent player. I would like to see him again, probably against better opposition because Plymouth were a young team.

“I would like to see him up against a couple of more experienced forwards to see how he copes with that.

“I believe he’s going to Southend for a couple of days but I did say I would ring him to try to arrange for him to come back to play another reserve game so I can have another look at him.”

Dalhouse looked strong in the air and composed in possession, although he was partly to blame for Plymouth’s late equaliser after lively winger Joe Mason gave him the slip in the lead up to the goal.

London-born Dalhouse worked his way through the ranks at Selhurst Park before penning a short-term contract after completing his scholarship in the summer.

Quinn added: “Crystal Palace have got so many youngsters coming through that they can be very selective with who they keep on and who they don’t. Unfortunately, Aaron was one of those who was released.

“But he’s the right size, he’s got a bit of pace and he seems very composed on the ball. He had a really good game for us on Monday, apart from when he let their lad turn him for their second goal.

“He did everything else really well and I thought he was decent in the air and made good use of the ball.”

Meanwhile, Quinn is hoping to have Sammy Igoe, Scott Guyett and Jason Pearce available for Cherries’ trip to League Two high-fliers Rochdale on Saturday.

The trio have all been laid low by a virus, with defenders Guyett and Pearce added to the sick list this week after the bug had kept Igoe out of Cherries’ 1-0 win over Chester.

Danny Hollands is also expected to return to training today after requiring four stitches to a shin wound, although Marvin Bartley is rated by Quinn as “touch and go” for Rochdale due to a hamstring injury.
