ANDONI Iraola admits the news Dominic Solanke had not been called up by England came as a “disappointment”, but insisted: “I don’t think he will give up.”

Despite enjoying his career-best season in front of goal in the top flight, netting 15 times, Solanke was snubbed by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney were instead preferred as understudies to captain Harry Kane, with Solanke left out despite only two men having scored more than him in the Premier League this season.

The 26-year-old, who has been managing a knee injury in recent weeks, has one cap for England, which came way back in 2017.

Asked if he could sense Solanke was upset to have missed out on the final squad ahead of this summer’s Euros, Cherries head coach Iraola told the Daily Echo: “For sure it has been a disappointment, because with the performances he has had, it was likely to think he could have a chance.

“It is true that now he hasn’t gone, this week we have given him some rest.

“He has been doing stuff alone in the gym. We can start training with him next week as normal, I hope with better feelings and forget about this injury.

“But I’m sure he wanted to go with the national team.

“I’m sure he will continue pushing, to earn the spot in the Euros.

“I don’t think he will give up.”

Solanke will have 10 more games this season to try and impress Southgate, with Cherries returning to action on Saturday, when they host Everton (3pm).
