CHERRIES women made short work of Abingdon United, running out 6-0 winners at their Long Lane base.

Lucy Cooper’s early double was added to by Katie James before the break, with Alisha Buckingham adding a brace of her own early into the second period.

Erin Bloomfield made it six in the closing stages, adding further gloss to the scoreline.

Cherries had their opener within five minutes.

Skipper Gemma Hillier fed Cooper, who made no mistake with a fool finish past Hannah Cox in the Abingdon goal.

Cooper went close again moments later, her run through the Abingdon defence only thwarted by a Cox save.

But by the 14th minute, Cooper would have her second.

This time James was the provider, teeing up Cooper to slot home her 17th goal of the campaign.

Just before the half-hour mark, Molly Barron-Clark crashed the crossbar with a long-range drive.

Cherries’ third of the afternoon would come from a set piece.

Kenni Thompson’s delivery from a corner found James, who headed home to send the hosts three goals up at the break.

They would continue where they left off in the second period, Barron-Clark finding Buckingham with a cross to make it four.

Buckingham set herself up for her second, nicking the ball back off an Abingdon defender before producing a finish to make it two goals in two minutes.

Goalscorer would turn provider for Cherries’ sixth, Buckingham’s cross meeting Bloomfield’s head and flying into the back of the net.

Cooper was chasing a hat-trick, and could have had one if she was not denied by the feet of Cox.

Substitute Chloe Gilroy was also thwarted by the Abingdon keeper at the near post, as Cherries saw out a clean sheet.
