CHERRIES avoided any potential cupset at the hands of Swansea City by dispatching of the Welsh side in quick fashion as they won 5-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

There had been plenty of talk about Cherries’ sluggish starts against Championship sides in cup competitions this term prior to kick-off, but any notion of a repeat was quickly quashed as Lloyd Kelly put the home side ahead after seven minutes.

Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra made it three before quarter of an hour had been played, before goals from David Brooks and Dom Solanke put Cherries 5-0 up at the break.

Cherries made five changes from the side defeated 4-0 by Liverpool on Sunday.

Kelly returned to make his first start since November, whilst Marcos Senesi, Scott, Brooks and goalkeeper Mark Travers were handed starting berths.

Nathan Wood’s cynical halting of Luis Sinisterra seemed harmless enough, with Cherries earning a free-kick far out-wide and midway through Swansea’s half.

However, skipper Brooks’ pinpoint delivery flew to the back post where Kelly was lurking, the defender siding in to slice past Andrew Fisher and open scores.

Three minutes later, Cherries would double their lead.

Brooks was again the provider, ghosting in from the right to cut the ball back and find an unmarked Scott, who finished with aplomb.

Cherries’ goal rush did not stop there.

Swans keeper Fisher’s sloppy pass out was punished, allowing Cherries to regain possession high up the field through Scott.

The Guernsey starlet slipped in Sinisterra, who made a placed finish look easy as he grabbed his first FA Cup goal of the campaign.

Proceedings entered somewhat of a lull, with Cherries looking comfortable despite a large portion of the cup tie to play.

Swansea’s Kyle Naughton struck the post via a deflected effort in what proved to be the closest the away side would come to a goal.

As the first half reached its conclusion, Cherries flicked through the gears.

A Swansea free kick inside the Cherries’ half mattered little to the home side, who quickly wrestled back control of the ball to release Brooks one-on-one with Fisher.

Cherries’ captain kept his cool to calmly caress the ball into the back of net and make it four.

There was still time for one more goal in the first 45.

Ryan Christie, celebrating his 100th appearance for Cherries, picked out Sinisterra down the flank.

In turn the Colombian found Solanke with a whipped cross, Cherries’ frontman applying the afters before taking off his shirt to reveal a message in tribute to the mother of teammate Jaidon Anthony.

Booked for the gesture, that was Solanke’s last input to affairs as he was taken off at the break, Cherries hoping to preserve their players.

However, injury would still rear its ugly head in the second period.

James Hill, who had been recalled to deal with the barebones situation at full-back, became the latest injury concern as he fell awkwardly with his outstretched leg.

He could not continue, with Gavin Kilkenny introduced in his place, Lewis Cook sliding across to right-back with the diminutive Irishman sitting in midfield.

By this point progression had been secured by Cherries, with Swansea suggesting no possibility of a comeback.

They did at least improve defensively, throwing bodies on the line to block the half-chances Cherries were creating.

With five to go, Moore came closest to a sixth, his flicked header at the front post from Cook's corner flying just wide of the back stick.

Despite lengthy stoppages, referee Darren England showed mercy to the travellers from south Wales, blowing for full time as soon as the clock hit 90 minutes.

Cherries earn £120,000 for victory, alongside a place in Sunday's draw for the fifth round.

Allocated ball number three, the draw will be made before Liverpool's tie with Norwich City.
