CHERRIES’ development squad’s 12-game unbeaten streak came to an end at Vitality Stadium with a 3-1 defeat to Ipswich Town in the Professional Development League.

The Tractor Boys led at the break through Dan O’Connor, before two goals in 15 minutes after the break from Osman Foyo and Matty Roberts sealed the result for the away side.

Substitute Kian Tydeman pulled one back 11 minutes from time, but there would be no comeback for Cherries.

There were concerning scenes ahead of kick-off when goalkeeper Darren Randolph required medical attention.

The Republic of Ireland international was stretched off, with kick-off pushed back by 10 minutes.

Cam Plain came into the starting XI, with Mack Allan remaining on the bench as substitute goalie.

First teamer Emi Marcondes continued his return from injury with a starting berth.

Ipswich came close to drawing first blood inside four minutes. Matty Roberts’ cross from the right came in at the perfect height for striker Ash Boatswain to head down to send the ball bouncing to the top right corner.

But Plain was alert to spring up and push the ball away from danger.

Quickly Cherries looked to hit their guests on the break, nearly pulling off a clinical counter through Daniel Adu-Adjei, who placed wide.

Michael Dacosta Gonzalez had a speculative effort that flew over the bar minutes later, setting the tone for the encounter.

The opener would arrive on 14 minutes. Cherries captain Ben Greenwood’s sliding intervention to deny Leon Ayinde at the near post proved in vain, with the subsequent corner putting Ipswich into the lead.

After the ball ricocheted between the teams, O’Connor nodded past Plain, who was powerless to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.

Minutes into the second period, Ipswich would be two goals ahead.

A long ball over the top was touched down by Balraj Landa, only for the ball to run outside of his control, allowing Foyo the opportunity to steal the ball and power it over Plain.

By the hour mark, it was three. Cherries stood off Roberts, allowing the winger space and time to place an effort onto the inside of the post, cushioning the shot into the back of the net.

The remainder of the game saw Cherries enjoy more possession, with little to show for it.

That changed in the 79th minute, when substitute Tydeman latched onto Finn Tonks’ low cross into the box, turning home the ball past Henry Gray in the Ipswich goal.

Cherries used the remaining time left to chase further goals, but were left frustrated by a solid Ipswich backline.

In stoppage time Cherries felt they should have a penalty for handball, with the linesman agreeing by flagging. However, referee Harry Wager indicated that he felt the Ipswich defender had used his chest rather than a hand, so no spotkick was awarded.

Adu-Adjei would strike the bar five minutes into added time, his lofted effort beating Gray before bouncing off the top of the goal and out for a goal kick.
