A TRIAL match is set to take place next month to give players the chance to earn a potential runout at Twickenham.

The management of the Dorset & Wilts senior men's rugby team are reintroducing the Dorset Knobs versus Wiltshire Rakers county trial game.

It has not taken place for over two decades, but will be used this year in order to select a squad for this season's Bill Beaumont County Championship competition.

That event climaxes with a final at Twickenham, the home of English rugby.

The Twin Counties are seeking a fourth triumph in the competition.

The trial game is due to take place at North Dorset Rugby Club in Gillingham on Wednesday, March 8, kicking-off at 7.30pm.

Dorset & Wilts won the Shield in 2011, coming from behind to defeat Surrey 43-22 in the Twickenham final, with teenager Tom Baldwin scoring two tries.

Bournemouth pair Frazer Wilford and Scott Chislett also crossed the whitewash on the day, as well as Wimborne's Lewis Warner.

Players who feel they should be considered for selection to represent Dorset & Wilts this year can contact head coach Dan Draper on 07771 535254, or email dan68draper@gmail.com
