MELISSA Courtney-Bryant opened her racing year with a determined 3,000m in the World Indoor Tour event in Boston, USA, reports Nigel Harding.
The Poole AC star stuck to Laura Muir for most of the 15 laps as the pair dominated the race.
Though the Scot won in 8:40.34, Courtney-Bryant was an impressive runner-up, closing to within one second with a final surge (8:41.09). This was the Welsh international’s fastest performance since 2019, when the pair both medalled at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Courtney-Bryant will be relieved to be back to her best after injury problems wiped out most of 2021 and left her unable to reach top form in the three major championships last year.
Katie Snowden (8:47.41) and Hannah Nuttall (8:47.72) completed a British clean-sweep of the top four places. Former Arts University Bournemouth student, Adelle Tracey, now running for Jamaica, was ninth on her distance debut with 8:52.96.
