OAKMEADIANS were left kicking themselves after relinquishing a 17-10 lead before losing 29-17 in the Dorset and Wiltshire Vase final at Salisbury.

Jeandre Tait, Hayden Hokianga and Tim Flower scored tries and Jamie Tryska slotted over one conversion as the Meyrick Parkers took command in the first half.

But their Southern Counties South rivals hit back hard after the break to triumph by a 12-point margin as they chase a Vase and league double.

Oaks coach James Croker said: "The game was there for the taking. We dominated first-half possession when we did the right things.

"But we missed a couple of opportunities to score extra tries which would have lengthened the lead and probably killed Trowbridge off.

"In the second half it was poor decision making.

"We lost 29-5 at home to them early on in the league campaign but beat them 25-19 at their place in January. We built up a lead in the final, but didn't take our other chances and got punished for it."

It was probably justice Trowbridge took the silverware as lucky' Oaks had received three byes against Bradford-on-Avon, Corsham and Dorchester to reach the final.

The Wiltshire outfit beat Weymouth 50-10 and Bridport 46-0 after getting a walkover over Supermarine.
