POOLE Town made a winning return to action by seeing off Willand Rovers in the FA Trophy.

Tony Lee netted twice from the penalty spot for the Dolphins, with Will Fletcher also on target in the 3-1 win.

Victory sets up a second-round trip to National League South side Maidstone United, with the winners of that then hosting either Frome Town or Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Willand's Archie Reay was causing Poole problems all evening at Black Gold Stadium, testing goalkeeper Mark Childs as early as the fourth minute.

Childs again had to deny Reay soon after, before Dolphins began to get a foothold in the contest, with Luke Pardoe finding Lee, but his shot was straight at keeper Mike Searle.

But back came the visitors, almost taking the lead before the break but Childs did well to thwart Cormac Pike.

And on the stroke of half-time, Poole got their noses in front with Lee firing a penalty into the roof of the net having been fouled himself.

But Willand made an instant response in the second half, equalising when Reay teed up Alfie Moulden to slot home.

The Devon-based side looked the more likely winners, until Tom Killick's men got back in front with Lee netting again from the spot having gone down in the box.

And the win was sealed in the closing minutes through substitute Fletcher, who rise highest to head home from a corner.
