STEVE Flynn plundered a hat-trick as Poppies maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an eventful 4-3 win at Team Solent on Saturday.

Flynn’s first-half double, coupled with a Ron Frost effort, saw Poppies reach the break leading 3-2.

Hisham Kasimu’s second goal of the game restored parity on the hour before master marksman Flynn popped up with the winner 14 minutes from time.

Goal machine Nathan Walker netted twice as Hamworthy United registered a 2-1 win over Horndean at the Specsavers County Ground.

Walker took to four his tally for the season, his first coming from the spot in the 59th minute before he made it 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining.

Sam Hamilton’s late winner condemned Brockenhurst to a 1-0 defeat against Tadley Calleva in front of a crowd of 142 at the Meadens Skoda Arena, the biggest attendance of the day.

A stunning volley from Rian Drake in the last minute rescued a share of the spoils for Bashley following a 1-1 draw at Bemerton, while Tim Stephenson and Sam House were on target in Lymington’s 2-0 win at Andover New Street.

Ben Hatch bagged the only goal as Verwood climbed to the Wessex One summit with victory over Folland Sports at Potterne Park.

Hatch netted in first-half stoppage-time as the Potters bounced back following their midweek defeat at Hythe & Dibden.

Lee Vint’s penalty and goals from Flynn Wearden and Harry Boyt earned Ringwood a 3-3 draw against Hythe & Dibden at Long Lane.

Former Cherries and Saints midfielder Jo Tessem, 46, was on target for the Watersiders along with Dan Steer and Matt Smith.

New Milton suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 3-0 against East Cowes Vics on the Isle of Wight.

Poppies visit Bashley tomorrow in the first round of the Hampshire Senior Cup, while Brockenhurst host Sholing, Ringwood entertain Hamble Club and Lymington travel to Horndean (all 7.45pm).
