POOLE Town and Wimborne remained inseparable at the Dorset Premier League summit with both sides recording important 19-point victories on Saturday.

The pair stayed deadlocked at the top of the pile with 203 points each – Dorchester are eight behind in third after their eight-wicket success at Bere Regis earned them a maximum haul.

Dolphins skipper David Miller played a captain’s knock of 66 not out to guide his troops over the line in an enthralling three-wicket win over Broadstone at Poole Park.

Having lost the toss and been asked to field first, the hosts restricted Broadstone to 204 for nine from their 50 overs.

Visiting opener James Park (61) top scored while Poole all-rounder Badrul Alam (3-45) was the pick of the hosts’ bowlers.

And it was Alam (38) who helped rebuild with the bat alongside Miller after Poole had gotten off to a shaky start in reply.

They were staring at defeat with the score on 51 for four following the departure of Ian Musselwhite (3), who was trapped leg before by Matt Spraggs (3-26).

Alam and Miller put on 82 for the fifth wicket and, although the former also fell to Spraggs, Miller saw his side home.

He was aided at the end by Dameth Gunawardena, who scored 12 from three deliveries batting at nine to earn Poole victory with five balls to spare.

Mike Holm (2-63), Peter Thompson (1-33) and Pete Russell (1-41) were also in the wickets for Broadstone, who are fifth in the table.

Meanwhile, Wimborne were gifted a staggering 48 extras batting first during their 65-run win at struggling Swanage.

That total was more than any of the Minstermen’s individual scores.

James Williams’s quickfire 46 from 39 balls – including two fours and four sixes – helped the visitors to a considerable 289 for seven.

There were also important contributions from James Miller (38) and Mark House (37) as well as unbeaten duo Graham Cole (34*) and George Bartlett (30*).

Craig Wells (3-37) was the pick of Swans’ bowlers with Mike Salmon (2-52) and Mike Hernandez (2-67) also chipping in.

Wickets were shared around with the ball for Wimborne as they contained the hosts to 224 for nine from their allotted overs.

Skipper Tom Caines (3-23) proved the most effective, with Harry Prince (3-58), Bartlett (2-50) and Williams (1-50) all doing damage. Simon Goldsack (49) top-scored for Swans before he was dismissed by Caines.

Despite suffering their 10th defeat of the season, Swans picked up eight points to move above fellow relegation rivals Sherborne.

Broadstone and Swanage lock horns at The Delph on Saturday, while Wimborne host Sherborne at the Leaze.

Poole face a huge encounter in the title shake-up when they visit Dorchester (all 1pm).
