ANDREW Surman is eager for Cherries to show a “winning mentality” throughout their pre-season schedule.
The midfielder could be involved when the Dorset club tomorrow take on La Liga outfit Sevilla at La Manga Club (7pm BST).
Eddie Howe’s men secured four wins during a six-game pre-season schedule last season – they came against Estoril, Portsmouth, Queens Park Rangers and Yeovil.
Cherries were however beaten 1-0 by Valencia and secured a 2-2 draw with Napoli to round off their preparations.
With six fixtures scheduled once again this pre-season, the former Norwich star wants to hit the ground running.
Surman told the Daily Echo: “Fitness is the main aim at the beginning but, since I have been at this club, every game we have gone into we have wanted to win.
“You have to try to get some positive momentum early on. Even if it’s a pre-season friendly you need that winning mentality straight away.
“I think we have that already and even in training you can see it – that will be no different with the pre-season games.
“There are no better teams to play than the likes of a Champions League quarter-finalist. Sevilla will test us but we have to stand up to that. I think it will get us ready for the start of the season.”
