TEENAGER Ed Fossey returned from exam duty to claim an R2 class victory in Rally van Wervik.
Flanked by co-driver Yan Griffiths, the Bournemouth University student finished 39th overall in Belgium in the third round of the MSA Asphalt Championship.
He said: “What a great weekend. I have never competed outside Britain before so it was all about taking as much experience as possible.
“To get the R2 win was goal one and the second was to see how we got on against the likes of Marty Gallagher and William Creighton, who are at the sharp end of this class in the British Championship.
"Considering they have been to Belgium before and have two years' more experience in the car, I am pleased with our times.”
The next round of the championship will be the Downs Rally in Northern Ireland on July 21.
Fossey added: “Rallying in Ireland is very specialist. The roads are undulating and bumpy and the weather can throw in a massive curve ball.
"I always want to get to the finish – that is the first thing in my head. Another class win would be good but the main priority will be to adapt to the car even more and put some Irish Tarmac miles under my belt.”
