NICOLAI Klindt knows he must become sharper from the gate following his maiden outing in British speedway this year.

The Danish charger raced alongside compatriot Hans Andersen in Peter Karlsson's farewell meeting at Wolverhampton on Sunday.

The duo eventually finished fourth out of seven pairs, with Klindt totalling 11 points from six rides.

Klindt, who will start the campaign at reserve, is hoping to trap more rapidly in tomorrow's Darcy Ward Invitational at Wimborne Road (7.30pm).

He told the Daily Echo: "At the start of the season, everything is new and you have to get used to the speed again.

"I had three practice days in Germany where I was testing different stuff.

"I was pushing myself all the time and focusing on my starts, which didn't work out on Sunday but which will, hopefully, work out on Friday."

Klindt added: "Last year, I used a particular engine abroad on similar tracks to Poole and this year I've brought that over to be specific to Poole.

"On Friday, it will be a good chance to test it against other riders."

Poole's riders did not practise at Wimborne Road yesterday due to wet track conditions.
