HANS Andersen confirmed plans to hold his testimonial at Wimborne Road this summer before admitting he would likely resist gambling on a double end-of-season celebration.

The Pirates skipper has enjoyed a distinguished 15-year career in British speedway, winning the Elite League in 2006 and 2012 with Peterborough and Swindon, respectively.

Andersen, who has also ridden for Ipswich, Coventry and Belle Vue, is currently in his third stint with Poole and hopes to experience top-flight glory for the third time come the end of the upcoming season.

And although the 36-year-old is yet to decide on a date for his testimonial, he admits he would prefer a mid-season slot rather than an end-of-year berth, despite the attraction of a potential title after-party.

Asked if he expected to hold his testimonial this year, Andersen told the Daily Echo: "Yes, I just haven't picked a date yet.

"It would be ideal to hold it the week after we win the league but there is no guarantee we will win it, even though I believe we will. In sport, anything can happen.

"You can also never be certain with the weather so that's why I am keen to find a gap earlier in the summer. It would be nice to have it during a two or three-week break where nothing is happening at Poole.

"If people haven't watched speedway for a bit, they might be a bit hungrier to come out and watch some racing."

The Odense-born charger revealed Swindon and Coventry had been potential venues for the meeting in previous years. But he feels the Wimborne Road shale is an apt track on which to do battle.

Andersen said: "I could have run my testimonial at Swindon but I didn't want to because the atmosphere was not that good at one stage.

"Then I went to Coventry, on a two-year deal to run the testimonial the second year, but again things didn't feel right.

"Poole will be the ideal place to hold it. I've no secret of the fact I would like to finish my British career there and in the UK, it is the club I've been with the longest.

"Normally, there is a pretty good crowd which is what you want."

The former Grand Prix kept plans over the meeting format close to his chest but admitted he hoped to recruit some past Pirates riders to help him out.

Andersen, who has Poole promoter Matt Ford's permission to proceed, added: "I've had a few different ideas but I can't say those because then it would not be surprise on the night.

"I'm thinking of running the meeting a bit differently to other testimonials in order to make it a bit more interesting.

"I'm hoping to get some people in who you don't usually see in the UK. I have a list of Poole legends who I'd like to see if I can get over for a meet and greet."
