CHERRIES striker Sam Surridge could be set for a loan move to the Football League – with Gillingham understood to be tracking the teenager.

Surridge, who has been with Cherries since he was 14, caught the eye when he netted seven times during a loan spell with Poole Town, which ended yesterday.

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh is believed to have had Surridge watched during his stay with the Dolphins in National South.

And although Poole boss Tom Killick is keen to have him back, a spell with the Kent outfit would probably be more beneficial at this stage of his career.

Wimborne-raised Surridge, who played locally for Bournemouth Sports and was a prolific goalscorer for the Cherries youth team, is on the comeback trail having broken his thumb last month.

The 18-year-old is expected to join Gillingham on loan for the rest of the season and could link up with Cherries team-mates Baily Cargill and Joe Quigley.

Defender Cargill has enjoyed a fruitful spell at Priestfield – which expired following their League One clash with Oxford yesterday – and could extend his stay at the club.

And while striker Quigley is still recovering from a serious knee injury suffered playing for the Gills earlier this season, they are keen to take him back so he can feature once he has regained his fitness.
