WIMBORNE Town captain James Stokoe is hoping expected changes to the Poole Town side for tonight’s Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final tie will work in Magpies’ favour.
Poole boss Tom Killick admitted he intended to include “two or three” under-18 squad members in his Dolphins line-up, with young keeper Tom Rees set for selection.
Midfielder Stokoe, who assumed the Wimborne armband after Scott Arnold was ruled out for the season, is keen to cause an upset at Tatnam against a side which plays two divisions higher.
Asked if expected changes to the Poole team gave him and his team-mates more hope, Stokoe told the Daily Echo: “Of course it does. Their first-team squad is fantastic and if there are players who aren’t playing for whatever reason, it’s going to benefit us.
“But it’s a derby and even if both sides had full teams, we’d like to think we would be able to give a good account of ourselves.
“We would like to play some good football on a big pitch and come out of it with a lot of positives. It will be a good test. Wimborne-Poole derbies aren’t played as often nowadays so it’s nice to lock horns with them again.”
Meanwhile, Brockenhurst host Moneyfields in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier, while Lymington travel to Hartley Wintney in the Hampshire Senior Cup third round.
