MYSTERY still surrounds Kyle Newman's prognosis tonight after the Poole Pirates reserve was admitted to hospital in the early hours of this morning.

The 24-year-old had been due to return for Pirates' trip to Wolverhampton but woke at midnight in "absolute agony".

Newman is suffering the effects of an infection on the back of the internal bleeding that saw him miss last week's trip to Coventry with further tests scheduled for tomorrow.

The latest setback seems set to keep him out of the return fixture against Wolves at Wimborne Road on Wednesday with Swindon's Charles Wright booked to stand in.

Dad Keith Newman told the Daily Echo: "The doctors have called it a fireball infection where all of a sudden, it comes back without any warning.

"Kyle got transferred to Royal Bournemouth Hospital in the middle of the night so he could have scans but as yet, he hasn't had them.

"He has since been told they will take place in the morning and all we know is that he is staying in until then.

"All weekend, he had felt absolutely fine. He phoned Matt (Ford, promoter) to say he would be at Wolverhampton, went to bed and then woke up in absolute agony."
