BOSS Eddie Howe insisted Cherries would not consider themselves safe after winning 3-1 at Newcastle and declared: “We want even more.”

An own goal and strikes from Joshua King and Charlie Daniels saw Cherries claim the spoils to move 11 points clear of the Premier League drop zone in the pressure cooker of St James’ Park.

Asked whether Cherries were just about there in terms of safety, Howe said: “No, it is not us just about there. We have a lot more work to do.

“We play Swansea next week, the games get bigger from our perspective. We don’t want to let up until we know we’re safe and even if we are to hit that mark, then we want even more.”

The result left Newcastle entrenched in the bottom three with the home crowd calling for the head of beleaguered boss Steve McClaren.

Asked if he had sympathy for his counterpart, Howe added: “I’m not sure sympathy is the right word. He is an outstanding coach and manager, he doesn’t need my thoughts expressed that way.

“What I would say is that if given time, I think he will lead the club to better times. I think he is a gentleman who knows what he is doing.

“You look at the clubs he has managed, there is no problem with him and I am sure better times are ahead for Newcastle.”

On the match, Howe said: “We are very pleased with the players. I thought we gave a very good account of ourselves, moved the ball well, passed it well and created a number of opportunities.

“The only disappointment from my perspective was that game was not over earlier, especially when they scored. Anything could have happened at that stage.

“It was not until the third went in that the game was finished but I can’t be over critical. In the situation we are in, the result was the most important thing.”
