CHRISTCHURCH boss Ollie Cherrett tipped Brad Cherrett for a bright future in the professional game after the youngster joined Yeovil Town.

Midfielder Brad took up the Glovers’ offer of a two-year scholarship having only signed for Priory’s first team last month following his 16th birthday.

The teenager started the campaign in the Christchurch under-18s side, bossed by his dad Andy, before being elevated to the first-team fold.

But now Brad will continue his football education in the youth set-up at Yeovil having not made a single appearance in the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Manager Cherrett, no relation of the youngster, told the Daily Echo: “I’m sure Brad is destined for a big future and as a club we are very proud.

“He had been playing up an age group in the under-18s yet he still stood out. As a centre-midfielder, he has got everything. He is good in the air and has got pace and technical ability.

“Me and my assistant Chris Hart kept a close eye on him and we were excited for his future with us. We were hopeful that he would play a part in our run-in but then Yeovil came in.

“He was asked to go for a trial and from that he was offered a two-year scholarship.”

Brad is not the first Christchurch player to earn a move to a Football League club, Harry Cornick having left for Cherries three years ago.

Priory travel to Pewsey Vale in Wessex One tomorrow, while New Milton host US Portsmouth and Ringwood entertain Laverstock & Ford.

In the Wessex Premier, Verwood Town face leaders Salisbury at Potterne Park and Poppies travel to Isle of Wight outfit Newport, while Lymington Town and Brockenhurst are away to Fareham and Fawley, respectively.

  • Dan O'Sullivan is set to be included in the Wimborne Town squad for their home clash with Bishops Cleeve in Southern South & West.

The Cherries youth-team ace, who can play in a variety of positions in midfield and defence, has joined Magpies on a month-long loan deal.

Wimborne boss Simon Browne said: “I spoke to Carl Fletcher about Dan and he said he was a good all-round player. Hopefully, he will add a bit of quality to the squad.”

Billy Maybury is unavailable so will play no part.

Meanwhile, Magpies are due to take on Cherries under-21s in a fundraising friendly at Cuthbury on Wednesday, March 2 (7.45pm).
