CHERRIES host Sunderland in the Premier League tomorrow (3pm). Here, we take a look at the Black Cats' three main men.
JERMAIN DEFOE
Irrespective of how badly Sunderland have played this season, they have always posed a goal threat thanks largely to a man who needs no introduction at Dean Court.
After 18 goals in 29 league games during a loan spell with Cherries, Jermain Defoe went on to wreak havoc for Premier League defences up and down the land for West Ham, Tottenham and Portsmouth.
With more than 200 goals in the English game alone, even at the age of 32 he is likely to give Tommy Elphick & co plenty to think about.
COSTEL PANTILIMON
Take one look at the Premier League table and it will be no surprise that Costel Pantilimon has been one of the busier keepers so far this season.
The Black Cats have the second-worst defensive record to date but had it not been for their Romanian international stopper, matters could have been far worse.
Pantilimon has made 22 saves so far, the fourth highest in the top flight behind Stoke’s Jack Butland (27), Newcastle’s Tim Krul (25) and Crystal Palace’s Alex McCarthy (24).
LEE CATTERMOLE
Love him or loathe him, Lee Cattermole has always added an extra edge to Sunderland’s play.
Granted, he has been in and out of favour under Dick Advocaat so far this season but with his side already entrenched in a battle for results, the midfield general’s credentials are difficult to ignore.
If selected, you can guarantee he will have an impact on the game one way or another.
