HUDDERSFIELD boss Chris Powell still considers Cherries striker Yann Kermorgant to be the best signing of his managerial career.

Kermorgant quickly established himself as a firm favourite at Charlton Athletic having been snapped up as a free agent by then-Addicks boss Powell in September 2011.

Cherries swooped for the ‘Beast from Brittany’ in January 2014 with Kermorgant plundering 20 goals from 31 starts and 15 substitute appearances in all competitions during his fruitful start to life at Dean Court.

The Frenchman’s latest strike arrived in the 16th minute of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Powell’s Terriers and the well-crafted effort came as no surprise to his former boss.

Powell told the Daily Echo: “The way he took his goal was typical of Yann. I have seen that thousands of times in training and games. He is tailor-made for the Championship.

“I was manager at Charlton when he was sold which I didn’t want to happen because I knew if you played him in the right team and you got him doing the things he is good at, he is a very talented player.

“Pound for pound, he is probably the best signing I have ever made.

“He has a very good touch and is very good aerially. He has good technique and has proved a very good signing for Bournemouth, which I always thought he would.

“I know Eddie likes to play and I could see what he was thinking when he signed him. If he got the right striker alongside him, which he did in Callum Wilson, then you knew they would dovetail.”
