WATFORD boss Slavisa Jokanovic labelled as “a joke” the decision to send off Gabriele Angella less than a minute into Friday’s clash with Cherries.

The centre-back was dismissed for a foul on Callum Wilson after the striker had attempted to burst clear around 30 yards from goal.

A Yann Kermorgant penalty and a Matt Ritchie strike subsequently condemned the visitors to a 2-0 defeat at Dean Court.

Jokanovic said: “We are in England and after 25 seconds we were down to 10 men. I'm sorry but it’s a joke.

"It was not good for anyone – it was not good for my players, our fans, for football fans watching elsewhere, for the game – to have that situation after such a short time.

“But I have to be proud of my players for the way they fought and showed spirit throughout the game. My contract isn’t big enough to pay so much money to give my opinion on this situation. It’s simple, it’s wrong and strange.

“Bournemouth are a very good team and they played better than us and congratulations to them. Don’t ask anything more about this situation because I will make some mistakes.”

Jokanovic revealed that Watford – who successfully appealed an Angella red card picked up at Dean Court 13 months ago – were likely to appeal once more.

He added: “We fought. We played a good game for half an hour before the penalty.

"In the second half, we found more complicated situations because we were tired. They scored one more goal and they could have scored other goals.”
