MANAGER Steve Cuss insists he is happy with Wimborne Town's consistency levels after witnessing his side hit Clevedon with a first-half goal flurry.

Mid-table Magpies, who had been beaten 4-1 by North Leigh in midweek, registered the same margin of victory courtesy of a rip-roaring start at the Hand Stadium.

Sam Griffin had already rattled the upright when Jon Blake handed the visitors a second-minute lead with top scorer Mark Gamble running amok with a 19-minute hat-trick.

Cherries youngster Luke Holmes almost capped a polished display with number five after the break but pelted the post. Tim Parker netted a late consolation for the Seasiders.

Wimborne remain on the outskirts of the Southern South & West play-off picture, five points off the top five in 11th place and Cuss is content with his side's progress after two thirds of the campaign.

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “Consistency is not a problem for me. I don't think we have been inconsistent, we were beaten by a better side in midweek and I have no complaints with that.

“I think we have been pretty consistent in terms of our play and have been beaten by a lot of the stronger teams in the league. We will try to keep improving in order to match them.

“We know what we are capable of delivering and what we are not. I don't think anybody would look at our squad and expect us to be top of the league and flying away with it.

"The club has limited resources and we know that. That limits the number of players that we can call upon and when we have injuries we have to look elsewhere.

“We are keeping our youth-team players involved and it is promising to see them coming through. We will continue to give them the opportunity to play and get better.

“I want to try and win every game and do not really think about where we are going to finish in the league. Our focus is on picking up as many points as we can and winning the next game.”

On the match, Cuss added: “It was a great first-half performance. We hit the post in the first minute, scored in the second and just carried on creating and taking chances.

“To be in that position at half-time, particularly away from home, was really pleasing. We expected a reaction from Clevedon in the second half and they certainly got better but we still created chances.

“Luke Holmes was excellent throughout the game and hit the post as well so the winning margin might have been even bigger.”

Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Oliver, Maybury, Costello (Biles, h-t), Blake (Waters, 75), Griffin, Davidson, Holmes, Gamble (Kemble, 68), Stokoe.
