WATFORD’S Odion Ighalo is a man bang in form – and chasing history.

Ighalo’s four-timer in the 7-2 annihilation of Blackpool last Saturday extended to eight goals in four consecutive league matches his scoring run.

And in netting a quadruple, the Nigerian striker achieved a feat that no Watford player had bettered in 84 years.

The only Hornets man to score more than eight goals in four straight league matches was George James, who registered 10 times in Division Three (South) in September 1931.

Ighalo’s run comprises single strikes at Cardiff and Huddersfield, a brace against Charlton and four goals against Blackpool.

If the 25-year-old is involved at Dean Court tomorrow night and can find the net once, he will match a mark set by Luther Blissett – a name more than familiar to Cherries fans.

Blissett, Cherries’ second-highest league goalscorer in the second flight, found the net for Watford nine times in five straight games between December 1978 and January 1979 – a run that included two cup ties.

Since scoring the first of his eight, Ighalo has averaged a goal every 35 minutes.

His exploits against Blackpool made him the 15th player in Hornets history to bag four or more in a league game, which put him in an exclusive club alongside the likes of Blissett and Michael Chopra.
