INTERIM boss Martin Spiers insists he is “loving the challenge” at Bashley and says he would relish the task of taking the job full-time.

The former reserve team manager was handed the role of caretaker at the end of last month after Graham Speechley-Price stood down to focus on commercial matters at Bashley Road.

And with the club yet to appoint a replacement, Spiers is hopeful that he will be able to take on the job and turn the form of the struggling Southern South & West side around.

Spiers told the Daily Echo: “The players have been good since I’ve been in charge, which is pleasing. I’ve been getting some good vibes off them and my name is in the hat for the job.

“It’s a very big commitment for me as it involves working on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and speaking to people throughout the week but I’m loving the challenge.

“Hopefully, we will change things round and get out of the smelly stuff.

“We’ve got some tough games coming up. We’ve got North Leigh away on Saturday and then we have to go to Merthyr in the middle of next month.

“I don’t know if I will still be caretaker then or if they will have found somebody to take the job full-time but I’m hoping to keep the job.

“I’ve come up from the reserve team and the boys all know me. I’m trying to get confidence behind them and there were a lot of good vibes from the players, fans and committee at the Yate game on Saturday.”
