CAPTAIN Jamie Whisken helped Poole Town come from behind to defeat Biggleswade Town and then insisted an FA Trophy run was a high priority.

A Kelvin Bossman header from a Greg Morgan cross had the home side 1-0 ahead at the break and seemingly on course for the third qualifying round.

But two goals in quick succession from Luke Burbidge and Jack Maloney just before the hour mark secured Dolphins a berth in today’s draw and £3,250 in the club coffers.

Whisken told the Daily Echo: “Having gone out of the FA Cup so close to the first round proper, it would be nice to have a run in the Trophy and earn the club a bit of money.

“You are never going to get to the FA Cup final but you have always got a chance in the Trophy. It’s more of a reality than a dream.

“Part of the manager’s team talk was what happened with Gosport last season and how there was no reason why it couldn’t happen with us.

“You just never know. It would be lovely to play at Wembley and that’s every kid’s dream.

“We will see what the draw brings but I think that if we get a club in a higher division then they will be rather surprised by what they come up against.”

Centre-half Whisken admitted that Poole had taken a while to hit their stride at the Carlsberg Stadium but said that half-time changes by boss Tom Killick had proved the catalyst for their improvement.

“It was our first fixture in two weeks so it was always going to be hard to get straight up to speed and we didn’t start too well,” said Whisken.

“I don’t think we necessarily felt it physically but it was clear to see we were a little bit off the pace.

“The manager made a couple of positive changes at half-time and, in the second half, we were back to our normal selves. We were more of an attacking threat and showed good character.

“It was the perfect situation to come out in the second half and get straight back into things. From then on, they had a few dangerous set-pieces but I think we saw the game out quite well.

“We have a never-say-die attitude which has won us a lot of games this season and long may that continue. If we keep it up, we will be at the top of the league at the end of the season.”
