FIRST-team manager Tom Killick has backed Poole Town’s young guns to make a splash in the FA Youth Cup following Wednesday’s emphatic 6-1 victory over Moneyfields.

Dolphins dominated from start to finish at Tatnam and progressed courtesy of Morgan Turner’s hat-trick which was backed up by second-half goals from Dan Munday, substitute Sammy Glatzel and tenacious skipper Billy Lowes.

Livewire Jack Dickson’s swinging centre evaded everyone, but Brad Goddard played the cross back in for Turner to tuck away the first after 17 minutes.

Turner, dual-registered with Verwood Town, netted his second on the rebound after Munday had pounced on a mistake by Moneys’ defender Callum Glen to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Munday outpaced his marker to slide home the third four minutes after the restart and Turner thumped home his third from the edge of box two minutes later.

Glatzel made an immediate impact, latching on to a loose ball and firing into the top corner from 25 yards with his first touch a minute after coming on.

Alfie Rutherford pulled one back for the visitors but Lowes had the final say for Poole, finishing off Dickson’s cutback in added time.

The win set up a second qualifying round date at Chippenham Town with Dolphins’ youngsters just two rounds from the competition proper and the possibility of a Football League opponent.

Killick, who managed the side, told the Daily Echo: “The side came together quite late, they had their first game together last week and it went reasonably well.

“Sean Brooks took training this week and there was an obvious improvement and they took it to another level in this game. Individually and collectively, the progress has been terrific.

“They are a well coached group with a good work ethic and I do sense there is a real determination to do well, despite the team being thrown together.”

  • Callum Dee’s strike nine minutes before half-time was enough to see Bournemouth Poppies past Sholing in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday.

The hosts edged a keenly-contested encounter 1-0 at Victoria Park courtesy of Dee’s well taken goal.

Poppies’ youngsters now face a lengthy trip to Walton & Hersham in the second qualifying round following their 3-0 win at Crawley Down Gatwick.
