Poole Town: Boss Tom Killick hands Micky Hubbard a shot at Dolphins return
Killick will hand the 28-year-old playmaker, a star attraction during Dolphins’ Wessex League days, a second chance to impress during the Tatnam club’s warm-up matches two-and-a-half years after his exit.
Hubbard, who made more than 150 appearances in three-and-a-half seasons for Poole, was one of several players who switched to Wimborne Town as Killick remoulded his squad in the early part of 2012.
He stayed with the Magpies until an acrimonious departure in February saw him finish last season back in Wessex League football with Hamworthy United.
Hammers boss Graham Kemp still harbours hopes of holding on to one of his prized assets, but Killick believes Hubbard’s fresh outlook can help him make an impression at a higher level.
Killick told the Daily Echo: “Micky didn’t leave Poole on the best of terms and I think he would acknowledge that.
“He would probably recognise now that there were occasions in the past where he let himself down in how he approached his football but he has made great strides as a person since then.
“I have a lot of time Micky, he’s a great character and he is desperate to prove himself. He has trained very well over the summer and become physically much fitter than I have seen him.
“His ability has never been in doubt and with how well he has applied himself, he deserves this opportunity.”
