AFC Bournemouth: Cherries to face Southampton in friendly

CHERRIES will host fierce rivals Southampton in a friendly next month as Eddie Howe’s men warm up for the 2014-15 Championship campaign.

The fixture against Saints will take place on Friday, July 25 (7.45pm), seven days before Swansea visit Dean Court.

Southampton achieved their highest Premier League finish since 2003 last season but lost the services of manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Striker Rickie Lambert completed a £4m switch to Liverpool on Monday, while Adam Lallana was the subject of a £25million bid from the Anfield club.

Meanwhile, Norwich City became the latest club to be linked with a move for Cherries striker Lewis Grabban.

Sky Sports yesterday reported that the relegated Canaries were keen on signing the 22-goal top scorer.

Cherries accepted an undisclosed bid from Cardiff City three weeks ago, with the offer understood to have triggered a £3million release clause in Grabban’s contract.

But now Norwich are reportedly hopeful of making a late play for the hitman’s services.

Nottingham Forest, Derby, Fulham and Wigan are among the other clubs understood to be keeping tabs on the ex-Rotherham forward.

Elsewhere, Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn will be among those present when Football League clubs meet in Faro, Portugal today for their annual general meeting.

The issue of a new tier for B teams - recently proposed by a Football Association commission headed by Greg Dyke - will top the agenda, while financial fair play rules, artificial pitches and the expansion of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy will also be discussed.

Re Grabbs: I would be much happier if he didn't fo to another Championship club.

Not much transfer speculation around about us signing anyone.

Re Lallana: To save themselves a bit of postage, the Stains can drop the cheque off for our share when they visit DC in July!

What!!!

First Rangers cancelled, now we can't play the Saints, if we want to be 'big' league we will have to handle the crowds!

There wasn't any trouble that I saw the last time we played S'oton down here, so I see no real reason for it now. It's banter (as it should be!) not hatred and I'm sure no real Cherries supporters mean the Saints fans any ill. You can't shut everything down for a few idiots and you'll get them anyway be it football or a night out in the town! I look forward to good hard fought game, some fun in the stands and a good Friday night out for both sets of fans.

Mate i agree with what you say but there was trouble last time and there will always be trouble. Just look on youtube and see Bournemouth fans trying to get to there fans at the away game and there was trouble when Bournemouth fans were walking to and from southampton station and there was trouble with saints fans in what is now the south stand at dean court. Just like the Reading fixture there will always be trouble.Even so should be a good friendly and with them loosing many players will be an interesting game.

An interesting fixture , the Saints play good football and it will be a good test for both Clubs. As for transfer activity, Eddie was only looking to add 2/3 players and until the Grabham situation is clear and the Lalana one too and he knows what money is available , his hands are tied somewhat. Lalana has made it clear that he wants the move to Liverpool but the new manager when appointed will have his say. On another subject, I see that Pompey claim to be selling season ticket like "hot cakes" and are expecting to sell 12,000+, I wonder how ours are going following the swingeing price increase, I know severalpeople who have been "priced out" and are looking forward to seeing the fixture list in a couple of weeks time to plan the games that they can afford to see.

'Plan the games they can afford to see'...... if there are seats available to accommodate them. They will have to get online, when they become available, asap to secure their seats as many will be in the same situation and especially if it's the 'big' games they want to see.
There are going to be several upset people again this season I expect.

Yes, when you consider that the family stand is sold out just in STs and the North Stand is going the same way, it'll leave just bits of the East stand, South stand and the scoreboard end for the general availability tickets - about 3500 maybe. Those 3500 are going to sell out in no time for most of our games.

Selling out most of our ground just in STs now doesn't leave the club which much week by week ticket income either, as we go through the season.

Going to be an interesting season methinks. And I think we'll be forced to come to a final decision on whether to expand where we are or move to another site. That debate will rumble on for now I'm sure.

FACT.

It's a double or nothing game over the Lallana sell on clause.

Max Demin first proposed a game of Russian roulette to the Southampton board, but they felt they were on an unlucky run after losing 15 of their starting 22.

AFCB agreed to the Southampton request that it only be a 6 aside match as they weren't sure who might still be on their books come July.

Yet again some half-wit 'journalist' trying to stir things up. I and many others support BOTH clubs and are very happy to see Bournemouth achieving so much. I'm also old enough to remember when supporters weren't segregated and the terraces were happy places where fans enjoyed the football and the banter. It wasn't until the late 60s & early 70s that fascist groups started infiltrating the fans and causing trouble. Even Saints and Pompey games (not that there were many) didn't attract violence. There's no animosity between 'Boscombe' and Saints FOOTBALL fans, only pre-pubescent idiots who need to grow up.

Sorry Coops, as far as I know it was I that coined the phrase
"South Coast Giants"
as I thought it would tickle Mincing @rser's and other Saintly types egos, and guess what I was right!

As you know this is now an AFCB term of ridicule, particularly when followed by a (snigger) or when abbreviated to SCGs for our low gene count friends creaking team up the road. The most amusing thing is that that Group CapStain Archie uses it plentifully himself on her thus taking the p1ss out of his own, now that's what I like.

Have a good day ya feisty young Cherry!

We appreciate your interest in our club but don't appreciate being patronised!

Also you've really upset COOPS this time he's gonna be looking for another username (again!) if the complaints go in!

Feel free to ask if you need to borrow any players off of us so that you can field a full team on the 25th.
Regards ;-p
Morning Ted, appreciate the concern and it may be the case that I will have to reinvent my persona once more.

Sorry but I really cannot help myself sometimes the red mist goes up and that's it I,m afraid, gloves off or in their case sharpen the claws, or is it hooves ?

There are just some things in life that are beyond the pale and the fact that their patronizing bile still continues after all that has been said beggers belief.

T o be honest there is a worse emotion than hat and that is indifference and to be fair I really could not give two figs for them one way or another.

As far as I am concerned they are the least of my concerns when it comes to rivalry, seriously I am completely indifferent to their existence until they start this nonsense, then it gets my back up a shade.

I could not care less if they lived or died. Pompey are their rivals for sure we jumped on the band wagon, until they started thinking that we were in some way their little lost puppy.#

for pity's sake guys & gals, 95% of fans of either clubs have no probs with the other. every club, big or small, has over the top fans who love to goad etc but soton have been reasonable to afcb & we do have many player links over the years. soton ARE a bigger club & many would be foolish to think otherwise but maybe we're growing nicely. i'd like to think all southern clubs will be reasonably successful (especially afcb!!!) as it will always be more beneficial in various ways to us as a club than if fairly local league teams struggle. just hope all this banter doesn't spill onto the streets etc on the day.

ps...wonder who will step into grabbs boots now?

Sorry to disappoint but it was me who first coined the phrase South Coast Giants. It was a gentle pi$$ take and referred to some minor foreign team who were described as giants shortly before offloading a player onto afcb. Might have been Malmo?

This match against the SCG will probably get you as excited as the fixture v Real Madrid, although we won't charge you. Just point out the red bucket, we'll see what we can do to help offset that 15 million pound loss.

Yes, i can just see thousands camping out all night and paying £60 for a golden ticket to see the SCG's (snigger). The giants that you refer to were Grasshoppers Zurich (Coulibaly purchase) a club that has a rich history of european football over the years, unlike your shambles of a club. I think it will take something a bit bigger than a bucket to transfer the 6.25 million and rising, that will be owed by then. Perhaps we could arrange for Lallana to hand over the cash at half time on the pitch.!!!!

I think you a forgetting that many Saints fans live in the Bournemouth area, they have been since the 60s when the likes of T Paine, Ron Davies, Martin Chivers were household names.
