Youth sport - Football: James sparkles with a double strike for Sprites
STRIKER James Rose netted two quick-fire goals to help Lymington Sprites under-13s turn the tables on their Division Eight promotion rivals Redhill Rangers at Harewood College.
The visitors’ decision to play with a strong wind behind them paid dividends with Rose scoring both his goals in the first half in their 2-0 victory.
Rose scored his opener from just inside the penalty box before adding his second shortly afterwards with a superb finish from an acute angle.
“The game was the opposite to when the sides met earlier in the season,” said Rangers boss Justin Murry, whose team won the away fixture 3-0 in December.
“Credit to Lymington, though, they pressed and passed the ball quickly.
“We created goal-scoring opportunities of our own throughout the game but they defended resolutely to keep a clean sheet.”
Sprites manager Dominic Jones, meanwhile, praised his team for their “dogged” performance.
“Redhill put us under considerable pressure in the second half, carving out a number of chances.
“But our dogged defending and good goalkeeping managed to keep them at bay.
“The match was played in an excellent spirit by both teams.”
Lymington’s victory moved them above Redhill Rangers into second place, two points behind leaders Bournemouth Sports.
