EDDIE Mitchell boldly declared his confidence that he could secure Poole Town’s dream return to a rebuilt Poole Stadium and revealed the site had always topped his wish list.

As exclusively revealed by the Daily Echo this morning, the former Cherries chairman has held talks with the stadium’s operators, Stadia UK, over Dolphins returning to a new multi-purpose arena on the site.

Mitchell was tasked with finding a permanent home for the football club after he acquired a two-year majority share option in December last year.

In a statement, Stadia UK said it was investigating the “feasibility of incorporating our three sports (soccer, speedway and greyhound racing) into a new stadium facility” and that it expected to reach a “principle conclusion” over the next two months.

But while Mitchell stressed any plans were in their infancy, the Sandbanks-based property developer reaffirmed his belief that the move would quickly come to fruition.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “I usually get things done so I don’t see why this would be any different. I have put in my expertise to make it happen and I think we will make progress.

“I would not have invested so much time if I didn’t believe in it or feel sure that it could go ahead.

“We have not submitted any plans to anyone but I have been working on different ideas for some time. I would not want to put timescales on it but like anything I do, I would like to get things moving as quickly as possible. Time goes on and we don’t want to hang around.”

Mitchell confirmed Poole Stadium was the only option currently being pursued in Dolphins’ search for a new ground and insisted it was by far and away the obvious choice.

He added: “The club I know always played there and it is my belief that the stadium is where they should be.

“Poole Stadium and Poole Town Football Club go hand in hand and we are totally looking towards this with the stadium leaseholders. There would be no better place.

“Whether it goes back there is not in my hands, I can only put forward suggestions and see what happens. It’s not our land and it’s not our lease so we really are at the back of the queue but we’re doing all we can to work our way to the front.

“At the moment we are exploring the idea and examining whether we can fit everything on there and whether it is viable, obviously with their (Stadia UK’s) blessing, so watch this space.”

On the prospect of being directly involved with renovating the site, Mitchell added: “I would like to think I would be, it’s what I do.

“It (the stadium) needs a brush up and I just want it to work for the football club, for the town itself and whoever else is involved with the speedway and the dogs.”

all those dog tracks closing sounds like a trend; could it be small crowds and less money circulating resulting in losses.
A rebuilt Poole Stadium with a Conference team will bring a new sense of
self respect to a town whose football representatives currently play on a school field pitch built at sea level on the site of the towns old well system
Go for it!!

I suppose all us sad people who said the same about Richard Carr were wrong there too!
Ask yourself why Mitchell said 'no comment' when asked why he doesn't watch afc bournemouth anymore.
His boyhood club he said and they are in his blood.!
Ask yourself why he's banned from afcb now.
Why would he be he if he was so good for the club?
His business partner banned him. How odd!

I would check your facts it wasn't small crowds at the greyhound tracks Bristol stadium sold to iikea ..Reading sold to developers ..Milton Keynes sold for houses and a supermarket ..Swindon is a proposed housing estate ..They will get permission to do whatever and run it into the ground then sell it for development
